Northstation  - Wagtail
I was kindly invited to design the artwork for the album wagtail by wonderful Irish musician/artist, northstation. Each sleeve was hand-sewn and featured a unique felt bird and an individual name card. A gallery of the sleeves can be found here. Album of the week

SLOW LORIS is slowly capturing Norman records heart to the point where we shake uncontrollably when a parcel arrives from them. Following my cooing appraisal of The Hollows CD last week (largely down to the stunning packaging), we have received a bunch of lovingly housed CDs by NORTHSTATION called 'Wagtail'. I'll wax lyrical about the sleeve first, each one constructed from some powder blue fuzzy felt style gear sewn up the sides with a little brown stitching & to top it, a cute brown & red felt bird sewn onto the front with a red button for an eye. An absolutely awsome, very lovely individual touch indeed. If the music wasn't some hugely involving sprawl of eclectic, experimental organic digital psych folk electronica then it would merely be a novelty but this is a real treat for fans of electronica certainly. Organic, bendy & absorbing with these 10 tracks reminding me in various places of a pastoral, slowed down U-Ziq , the spine tingling percussive onslaught of early Capitol K (an act that once blew the top off our collective heads), the twinkling & pulsing brilliance of 'Pause' era Four Tet & even an embryonic Vector Lovers (especially that apocalyptic, haunting synth they used on 'Tokyo Glitterati') This is the kind of music that gives us hope. Just a great sprawling mess of scattershot ideas, drifting moods, blurred beats, & captivating atmospherics, like a tasty soup that doesn't even need any black pepper. This labour of love is limited to a mere 121 individualised copies (we're getting a fair portion of the pressing so don't fret!) Album of the week the three of us cry in unison! x Brian Dangermouse
